How to use the HEIC to JPG Converter

  1. HEIC files are recognised by their content (the ftyp brand), so photos renamed to .jpg are still detected.
  2. You can also drop HEIC photos on the other image tools (resizer, compressor, converters); they are decoded the same way first.

Privacy and limitations

  • Your data is processed on your device and is not uploaded to any server.
  • EXIF metadata (date, camera, GPS location) is not copied to the JPG; the photo is saved upright without an orientation tag.
  • Multi-image HEIC files (bursts, some Live Photos) give their first image only; HDR gain maps and depth data are dropped.
  • Large photos (48 MP and up) need a lot of memory and may fail on phones.
  • The decoder is libheif, which is licensed under the LGPL-3.0 and is bundled unmodified via the heic2any package (MIT).

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC decoder (libheif, compiled to JavaScript) runs inside your browser, so photos never leave your device.

Why does it take a few seconds?

HEIC uses HEVC compression, which browsers other than Safari cannot decode natively, so a software decoder is downloaded the first time (about 1.3 MB) and runs on your device.
